Arctic Basecamp Talk

Go behind the scenes in Ilulissat

In Greenland, it is nature that sets the agenda. The weather changes quickly, the light shifts from hour to hour, and this is exactly what ensures that no day up here is ever wasted – whether the sky is high and blue, or the fog drifts in from the fjord.

The Heart of Greenland

The best part of Greenland wasn’t the icebergs; it was the people who welcomed you into their everyday lives. Friendly smiles in small harbors, shared stories over hot coffee, and quiet moments watching the northern sky together leave a deeper impression than any towering wall of ice. This section can capture those human connections, the warmth behind the cold landscape, and the sense of belonging you felt so far from home.

Use this space to describe the families, guides, and new friends who shaped your journey. Highlight the hospitality of remote communities, the pride in Inuit traditions, and the way simple acts of kindness transformed your trip. Whether you’re sharing a travel story, a photo essay, or a personal blog, let this be a tribute to the people of Greenland who turned a beautiful destination into an unforgettable experience.

Meet Your Host:

Palle Jerimiassen

Palle Jerimiassen was born and raised in Ilulissat, on the wild and beautiful west coast of Greenland. Growing up among towering icebergs, midnight sun, and long Arctic winters, Palle learned to read the land, the sea, and the sky from an early age. Everyday life in Ilulissat shaped a deep respect for nature and a strong connection to local traditions.

As a host, Palle shares a side of Greenland that most visitors never get to know. Beyond the postcard views, there are stories of fishing families, sled dogs, changing seasons, and a community that has adapted to the Arctic for generations. Each walk through town, each boat trip among the ice, and each shared meal becomes a way to experience authentic Greenlandic life.

Read my story and discover how childhood adventures on the ice, time spent with elders, and years of guiding guests have created a unique way of welcoming travelers. From quiet moments under the northern lights to lively evenings filled with local tales, every stay is designed to feel personal, warm, and unforgettable.

Through this personal journey, Palle invites guests to slow down, listen to the silence of the icefjord, and connect with the real Greenland behind the usual tourist routes. It is an invitation to experience Ilulissat not just as a destination, but as a living home shared with a trusted local host.
